mar 24, 1765 - Stamp act
Description:
The British had massive debt after fighting the Seven Years War, and believed that the colonists should pay for a portion of that debt. Thus they enforced the Stamp Act and caused a hefty tax all all printed products within the colonies. The colonial response to this was extremely varied, with some attempting at negotiations through petitions, while others resorted to violence. Some colonists believed that the British were deliberately trying to strip colonial identity and their rights.
