April 25, 1846 to February 2, 1848. Thirty-five thousand U.S. Army troops and 73,000 state volunteers fought in this war. Most volunteer regiments were from southern states. The war in which U.S. forces were consistently resulted in the United States of more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory to the Pacific Ocean.
