mar 18, 1766 - Repeal of Stamp Act and passage of Declaratory Act

Description:

The British had repealed the Stamp Act due to the boycotts and excessive protests from the colonists. However, people in Britain began to insist that unless England compelled the colonists to obey, pretty soon they would stop obeying any of the laws. The Declaratory Act was passed on the same day as a way for Britain to assert their dominance over the colonies. The colonists rejoiced, having gotten the British to back off and repeal the Stamp Act they resented so much. They almost completely ignored the Declaratory Act in this joy, paying little attention to this declaration of power.
