Andrew Jackson was president at the time and he made an Indian removal policy to require the Cherokee Indians. They were forced to move from their land that they had east of the Mississippi. All of the Indians were forced to move to what is now called Oklahoma. Because of the treacherous journey, it’s known as the “trail of tears”.Added to timeline:
