jun 22, 1774 - Quebec Act of 1774

Description:

This act was passed by Parliament in June of 1774 and created a permanent government in Canada, restoring French civil law. French Canadians, who were mostly Roman Catholics, receive religious freedom. This angered the colonists, as the majority of them were Protestant. In addition, this act gave much of the western land the American colonies had claimed to Quebec. This caused the colonists to have much resentment towards Britain and simultaneously ensured Canada to stay loyal to Britain.
