dec 16, 1773 - Boston Tea Party

Description:

After the Tea Act was passed, colonial resentment towards the British spread. The colonists felt they were being taxed unfairly, without representation. On December 16, 1773, American colonists, including the Sons of Liberty, dumped hundreds of chests of British tea in to the Boston harbor to protest the Tea Act. This act of protest was very controversial. Some colonists, such as John Adams, were proud of this protest, but others, such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were annoyed and did not think it was the right way to protest. The king soon retaliated by passing the Coercive Acts, only serving to strengthen the tensions between Britain and the colonies.
