jul 8, 1775 - The Olive Branch Petition
Description:
The Olive Branch Petition was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, and the final copy by John Dickinson. The petition essentially said the colonists were willing to stick with the British and have peace. This petition failed, however, as the colonies already were seen as traitors after the battles of Lexington and Concord. The document was also very contradictory to all the other actions the English had taken up until then. This document was only made to keep unity within the colonies for a little while.
