jan 1, 1774 - Qubec Act

Description:

The Quebec act was passed about the same time as the Coercive acts. This act gave the french-speaking roman Catholics who lived in Canada/Illinois a civil government. Although on it's own appearing not to be an offensive act, due to the controversy in the colonies at the time and rumors of the Church of England scheming to appoint a Bishop that would enforce Anglican authority, many colonists saw this as a threat, and thought it would hinder westward expansion.
