Description:

Dred Scott was an enslaved man who had been taken by his owners to free states/territories, and attempted to sue for his own freedom. Dred Scott was brought to Illinois which was considered a free state, so then it became a conflict that slaves can go anywhere which did not make the northern states that were free states happy. They did not want slaves near their territory.
