jun 29, 1767 - Townshend Act

Description:

Britain needed money from the colonies, so they assumed their power (from the Declaratory Act) to tax colonists on items such as paper, lead, tea, and paint. This mine was also needed to pay salaries of royal officials. However, colonists petitioned due to taxation without representation and the perception that these acts were British attempts at enchaining the Americans. The Sons of Liberty enforced the boycott of British goods.
