may 3, 1765 - QUARTERING ACT
May 3, 1765
Description:
The colonists were to provide quarters and supplies to the British troops in America. The British thought that this act was reasonable because they were protecting the colonists from Indian raids and such. The colonists protested this act in many ways. They saw this as another form of taxation without representation and refused to vote to the mandated supplies to the troops. The New York assembly also provided great challenges to the imperial authority (New York was also the place where the British troops headquarters were).
