apr 5, 1764 - SUGAR/MOLASSES ACT April 5, 1764

Description:

The British enforced this act to eliminate the illegal trade between continental colonies and French/Spanish West Indies. They also wanted to get money from the colonists to pay for security and have enforcement duties on sugar. The Colonists were not happy with this act. The Colonists never paid the tax to colonial governments, colonial merchants ignored the act and colonists stopped buying British goods (boycott).
