Description:
Henry Shaw commissioned the first main conservatory and greenhouses. The 1868 Conservatory, as it was known for the year it was built, consisted of a long central bay with greenhouses on each end. It housed exotic plants such as cacti and orchids. The conservatory was the centerpiece of the Garden's display until it was torn down in 1914.Added to timeline:
