jan 1, 400 BC - Democritus Proposes Atomic Theory
Description:
Around 400 BC, a greek philosopher named Democritus proposed a theory that suggested all matter was formed of tiny discreet particles and that these particles shared the same properties of the matter they made up. He reasoned that if a stone was continually cut in half, the two halves would have essentially the same properties as the whole. To him this meant that eventually there would have to be a point at which a piece would become so small it would be indivisible.
