jan 1, 1628 - Petition of Right
Description:
The Petition of Right stemmed from many constitutional struggles of seventeenth-century England. The Petition of Right was established in 1628. The event that sparked the creation of the Petition of Right was when King Charles I needed money, he went looking to raise funds without permission from the Parliament. He also tried to get money from his subjects through pressuring them. In 1628, the Parliament forced King Charles to give his consent to the Petition of Right.
The Petition of Right was important because it gave the citizens rights that the King could not infringe on. It made it so the King couldn’t just take away property of his citizens just because he felt he had the power to do so. It strengthened the beliefs that the English people had about having certain rights that the government could not overpower.
