dec 10, 2001 - China officially enters the World Trade Organisation (WTO)
Description:
After more than a decade of negotiations, China finally officially entered the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as a member on December 10th 2001, after a unanimous decision was reached by the other members a month previously. This new development is expected to greatly benefit both the Chinese and global economy, as entering the WTO will open up China’s market more and allow for more trading opportunities. At the same time, China’s popularity and competitiveness as an exporter will increase, possibly threatening the export markets of other countries.
