dec 16, 1773 - The Boston Tea Party
Description:
The British East India Company lacked funds and were in major debt. This company, a big asset to the British, needed to survive, so in an attempt to save the company Lord North passed the Tea Act taxing tea, but lowering its cost. Even though the British had lowered the cost, when they taxed the colonists the British East India Company was now in control of all the colony’s tea and the colonists disapproved of this. People began protesting this law and one of these protests resulted in a Patriot group’s, ,The Brothers of Liberty, hijacking of a ship from the British East India Company. They threw roughly 90000 pounds of tea into the sea that night.
