jul 2, 1767 - Townshend Acts

Description:

The Townshend acts were again economical measures to try to pay off war debt however this time they were taxes on luxury items like paint, lead and tea. These taxes also went to pay salaries of governors and judges so that the British would have more control on the colonial way of life. The colonists were now starting to feel as if the taxes they’d accepted earlier as legitimate ways to control trade for mercantilism were being used as ways of income. The Colonists boycotted these items and again tried to get around the British taxes as they were angered.
