Hernán Cortés was a Spanish explorer who discovered the Aztecs and much of inner Mexico. His purpose of going was for Gold but ended up finding the Aztecs. He met with the leader of the Aztecs Montezuma. He ended up holding Montezuma captive and told the rest of the Aztecs to pay him to get their leader back. But they just conquered the Aztecs. But the good thing is he became the first governor of New Spain.
