The British government wanted to prevent future skirmishes with the American Indians after the French and Indian war, so they enacted the Proclamation of 1763. The proclamation limited the area in which colonists could settle. Colonists were forbidden to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made many colonists rebel.Added to timeline:
