The attacks on September 11th, 2001 by the Islamic Terrorist Group Al Qaeda resulted in almost 3000 deaths. Less than a month later, American troops were deployed to Afghanistan to fight terrorist groups in that area.The reaction to the 9/11 attacks increased federal power when President Bush utilized his military power by initiating a war on terrorism and creating the Department of Homeland Security.
