jan 19, 1966 - equal pay decision The equal wages case was brought to court in 1966, at the behest of the North Australian Workers Union. The aboriginal workers demanded to have equal pay as the white workers, in order to take one step closer to being treated equal. In 1968, the aboriginal protesters finally got what they wanted, and where given equal pay for their work, one year after a referendum was added to the constitution, classifying aboriginals as people.
