22h 26min, may 6, 1943 y - Vafeiadis Elected as Turkish PM
Description:
Greek General Markos Vafeiadis has been elected by the Communist Party of Turkey to be the head of state of the Turkish SSR, ushering in a new era of leadership for the Eurasian nation. As his first act as leader of the Turkish SSR, Prime Minister Vafeiadis has declared Greek an official language, establishing the Greco-Turkish Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (Greco-Turkish SFSR) and merging Greece's borders with Turkey's. Former Prime Minister Vladimir Zakhaev, having been voted out of office, has returned to Moscow to resume his KGB duties, according to the Greco-Turkish State Security Committee.
While the formation of the Greco-Turkish SFSR is considered a controversial move in Moscow, Istanbul's Dolmabahçe Palace assured the Kremlin that this isn't a move towards Eurasian independence from the Soviet Union.
