feb 24, 1890 - Kinetoscope creation

Description:

In 1889 Louis Le Prince made the first camera to display moving pictures. Edison used the technology. This camera was called the Kinetoscope. The kinetoscope was designed for films to be viewed by one person at a time through a peephole viewer at the top of the device. The kinetoscope showed what could be made and made other inventors want to beat it as they saw the money opportunity in it. Luckily Edison is a selfish guy so he wanted to ensure people didn’t make a device like his and so he patented it and sold film reels at extremely high prices. If Edison had been less reluctant to sell his technology the advancements that had been made may have taken longer. Also, Edison made people leave the New York area (by not letting people there create new technology that was similar or better than his) and made people move to L.A, which is now the biggest area in film today. Edison ‘inventing’ what he did and acting the way he did had the biggest impact on film as it might have taken years for someone else to think about the idea of a moving picture.
