oct 16, 1095 - First Crusade
Description:
The First Crusade was Western Europe's approach of taking Jerusalem and the "Holy Land" back from the Muslims. It was caused by the rise of the Muslim Seljuk's (a Turkish tribe) who had taken over Jerusalem by 1087 CE. It was called by Pope Urban II in hopes to bring Jerusalem back under Christian control, protect the tomb of Jesus Christ and to unite the Western and Eastern Christian Church.
