King Charles VIII of France began his conquest of Italy by invading the city-state of Pisa. This invasion marks the beginning of the Habsburg-Valois Wars, a period of great turmoil and upheaval in Italy. The war ultimately resulted in a loss of power for France and more power for the Hapsburgs. The war also further prevented the Italian city-states from uniting for over 400 years.
