nov 20, 1767 - Townshend Act

Description:

On November 20, 1767 the Townshend Act went in to affect. Charles Townshend originally created the Act to gain revenue to pay for the debt from the war, but also saw this as a way to control and remodel American government, and to ensure loyalty to the British crown. With the help of a secret society of American bushiness leaders (Sons of Liberty) towns in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island agreed to boycott British goods. In response to this Britain sent troops to Boston which led to fights among Colonists and the British.
