jan 4, 1900 - German-Spanish Treaty

Description:

Following the Spanish American War, Spain was able to hold off the US Navy in the Pacific, but at the cost of much of its own navy. The rebellions that had been occurring in the Spanish Empire for decades grew. They newfound naval advantage gave the Filipino rebels a much needed opportunity to rise up, which they did.

By late 1899, the Spanish had to pull all of their resources in the east indies and direct them to the Philippines. This caused a question to appear in Spain "What was the point of these islands?"

In January of 1900, Spain sold the Islands to Germany in exchange for 25 million pesetas.
