Description:
Grenville, who won parliamentary approlval, replaced the previous rate of 6 pence to 3 pence per gallon. It had little support in America including John Hancock, who was making a living from smuggling French molasses. They claimed that the Sugar Act would ruin the distilling industry, vowing to smuggling French molasses.
