may 2, 1766 - Regulator Movement

Description:

In North Carolina, when a fall in tobacco prices happened, farmers were not able to pay off debts. While that was happening, farmers were getting sued, taking property. Many farmers lost their land or even went to jail to not giving up their land. Doing so many debtors defied the courts orders causing a set of reforms to become created. The reforms were lower legal fees and taxes, wanted greater representation in the assembly, and a revenue system. This ended with Royal Governor William Tryon executing seven insurgent leaders.
