jul 19, 1862 - Stickine Territory

Description:

Following the Stikine Gold Rush in 1861, a new colony was established to accommodate the large number of American miners who had come to the area. The territory was defined as the 61nd parallel north, 125th meridian east, and the Nass and Finlay Rivers.

The primary cause of the separation was to leave the exclusive trade zone of the Hudson's Bay Company so that the British could impose tariffs and licences on the miners.

In January of 1864, the Territory was returned to the Hudson's Bay Company and merged with the District of New Albion.
