Description:
The first of many districts, Keewatin was formed from a central strip of the North-West Territories to provide government for the growing area north of Manitoba and west of Canada.
It would become its own territory in 1895, gaining the land between it and the Hudson Bay. It also traded land with the North-West Territories.
