Following the British Victory in the Third Anglo-American War, many in the US wished to consolidate their Central American possessions. Memories of the failure of the FRCA had been largely forgotten and dreams of a united Central America had begun to form yet again.
In 1874, the United Unions party was established in Nicaragua, with the dream of perusing a Central American Union. They argued that all other members of the American Empire [the USA, North Mexico and Rio Grande] were unions of states and that Central America should be a union as well.
They won the 1876 elections in El Salvador and Nicaragua and nearly won in Honduras. After years of negotiations, the US client states of El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras were united into the Greater Republic of Central America.
