jan 9, 1905 - Korea-Japan treaty, Korea became a protectorate

Description:

Japan-Korea treaty (1905)

On November 9, 1905, Ito Hirobumi arrived in Hanseong and he gave a letter to the Empire Gojong to sign the treaty, but Gojong didn’t accept and didn’t want to sign the treaty. So on November 15, 1905 Ito Hirobumi ordered the Japanese army to surround the Korean Imperial Palace and forced and threatened the emperor to agree to the treaty. Later on 17 November 1905, Ito hirobumi and general Hasegawa Yoshimichi entered the Jung Myung Jeon Hall, staying close to Emperor Gojong and persuading him to sign the treaty. But Emperor Gojong strongly disagreed, because of the disagreement, Ito threatened Gojong even physically.According to Han-Gyeok, Han Gyu seol also disagreed and for disagreeing against the treaty he was locked in a room and his life was threatened. The Emperor was not willing to sign the treaty so the treaty ended up as the five Korean Ministers signing it. It was signed by Minister of education, Lee Wan-yong, Minister of Army, Yi Geun-taek, Minister of Interior Yi Ji-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park je-sun and lastly the Minister of Agriculture, Gwon Jung-hyeon. These 5 are known as the Chil-ilpa or the pro-Japans. They gave up their country and basically sold their country for their own lifes. And uptill now they are still hated by the Koreans. The important fact is that the five Minister who did bad to the country wasn’t punished. In conclusion 1905 was the year Korea became the colony of Japan.
