Seeing the UN forces near the Yalu River as a legitimate security concern, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) cross the Yalu river and engage the UN forces, who (for the most part) were the victims of racial hubris, and were sent in full retreat back to the South, beyond the 38th. Although the UN would eventually manage to halt Chinese advance, as well as to launch subsequent counter attacks, the rest of the war would become a gigantic stale-mate that would drag on for another 3 years.
