apr 5, 1764 - Sugar Act
Description:
This act was meant to raise British revenue, and was probably another result of the debt the French and Indian war gained them. This act actually cut the tax in half; however, it raised enforcement of the tax. It was to the point where they ordered a different procedure for apprehending smugglers to get guilty verdicts easier. This angered colonist as this indirectly raised the price for rum, and the British took advantage of America's lack of training partners to abuse their monopoly and raise partner.
This lead to some of the first protests about being taxed.
