Amazon released their first e-reader, the Kindle. Although it was not the first e-reader to be released to the market, the Kindle was by far the most successful and enabled e-books to rise in popularity. The Kindle, like many e-readers, uses electronic paper technology which allows the screen to reflect light similar to paper and provide the user with no glare while they are reading. Furthermore, where the Kindle diverged from other e-readers at the time, was built in WiFi access to the Kindle e-book store, as well as free 3G data access across the United States. It also came with a speaker and headphone jack which allowed the user to listen to audio books.
