sep 10, 2008 - Large Hadron Collider finished construction
Description:
After ten years of construction, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) finished the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) becoming not only the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider, but also the largest machine ever built, measuring 27 kilometers in length. The LHC is hoped to be used by physicists in order to answer unsolved questions about physics as well as prove or disprove theories related to elementary particles by running tests. Furthermore the LHC can be used to produce conditions believed to have existed moments after the creation of the universe through the Big Bang by colliding beams of protons or ions close to the speed of light.
