jan 1, 1859 - Louis Pasteur
Description:
Pasteur's experiment involved boiled broth in a swan neck flask. When the flask was upright air was allowed in, but bacteria would get caught in the bend. The bacteria couldn't grow when the flask was upright, but when tilted the bacteria could get in and mold grew in the broth. Pasteur's conclusion was that the life force wasn't in the air, but from pre-exisitng organisms.
