jan 1, 1706 - Mission San Ildefonso

Description:

It was used as a church. It was a Spanish mission in Texas. It is one of the best known of the New Mexico living pueblos. During the time of colonialism, living in the San Ildefonso Mission gave many burdens to the Tewa speaking people of Northern New Mexico. Half of the Spanish colonial "rules", the Spanish wanted the people to convert to Catholicism. After several decades the people got tired/and hard so the Native people resisted. The San Ildefonso Indians played a major role in the great Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Their chief, Francisco, was one of the major leaders of the rebellion that successfully got rid of the Spanish for many years. The church was destroyed during the revolt. After some time, it was again under the authority of the Spanish.
