jan 1, 460 BC - Democritus-Atoms

Description:

Between his year of birth (460 B.C ) year of and year of death (370 B.C), Democritus developed the "Atomic Theory of the Universe". The theory adopted from his mentor (Leucippus) states that "The universe is composed of two elements: the atoms and the void in which they exist and move.” He theorised that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles called atomos (atoms) that were different sizes and shapes. Although Democritus's theory was correct, it was rejected by Aristotle (very influential philosopher back then) due to the lack of evidence to support it and thus the theory was ignored for nearly 2,000 years.
