AU-HU seized this opportunity to annex Bosnia/Herz (Russia was also reeling after defeat in 1905). This enraged Serbia and pan-Slav nationalists throughout Europe. Russia's response was to encourage pro-Russian, anti-AU sentiment in Serbia
