jun 11, 1856 - Second Colombian Encroachment

Description:

In 1856, another attempt was made by Colombia to negotiate the border with Costa Rica. Using their much larger influence, Colombia was able to reestablish the status Quo border of 1836, regaining Bocas del Toro.

In exchange, Colombia abandoned its claim on the Costa Rican Mosquito Coast. However, due to difficulties in mapping the Doraces river, the treaty was never ratified.
