This sculpture stands at 209 cm tall and is made of marble. It was commissioned to Donatello by the guild of Florentine armorers and sword-makers. He stands in the same church as Saint Mark. The statue is holding a shield and seems as though he's surveying the danger that is coming from every direction, almost as if he is protecting the church.
