jan 1, 1453 - Penitent Magdalene
Description:
This wooden sculpture of Mary Magdalene stands at 188 cm tall. Despite the more well known depiction of Mary, A beautiful and healthy young woman, Donatello shows her as emaciated. Little is known about this statue as the first mentioning of it in written history is from 1500. Historians say that this sculpture was most likely commissioned by the Baptistery of Florence.
