jan 1, 1411 - Saint Mark

Description:

The Saint Mark statue stands at 7 feet 9 inches and is carved from marble. This is an example of one of Donatello's early pieces. This statue in particular is known for its realist qualities as well as being more naturalistic than those made in the dark ages. Originally displayed in an exterior cove of the church, its now seen at the church's museum. The statue originally wasn't perfectly proportional, so Donatello covered it with a cloth, left it alone for 15 days and returned to fix the statues proportions.
