Description:
After the annexation of the Cape by British forces during the Napoleonic wars, it officially became their colony in 1815.
This event was significant as it signaled a new chapter in South African history as the British implemented many changes in South Africa including but not limited to: The abolition of slavery and the exclusion of the Dutch-speaking population from the upper echelons of South African government. However, some of these changes only happened much later.
