The large ship RMS Titanic sank on 15th April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean after a collision with an iceberg. The huge passenger streamer was supposed to have its first long trip across the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton to New York City, but on its way the biggest and most popular ship accident happened. There were about 2.225 people on board and more than half of them died due to the lack of lifeboats. The Titanic could carry more than 3.500 people, but there were only lifeboats for 1.170 people available. The fact that the builders of the Titanic claimed that it was unsinkable, made the loss of more than 1.500 lives even worse. This fallacy had probably the biggest impact on safety measures on the sea, because global shipping standards were invented and in 1913 the first Safety of Life at Sea Convention took place. The Titanic is one of the most famous tragedies which was extensively discussed in literary works and the movie which is named after the ship, highlights the process of the sinking and merges it with a tragic love story.
