In 1896, a rich Belgian businessmen man named Mathieu Delporte set out with 100 men and a large supply of materials bought in the previous years, sailing to Antarctica. They arrive on the East coast of the Weddell Sea near the Pensacola Mountains and establish a small settlement named after the expeditions captain, Delporte Harbor.
