Description:
Marquette was born in Laon, France in 1637. He was financed by France. Marquette's motivation was to claim land from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico for France. He went from Lake Huron, down the Mississippi River to the Arkansas River and back. Marquette accomplished founding missions in present da y Michigan and mapping the Mississippi River.
